Homes questions ‘still unanswered’
Fens estate residents who are opposed to the proposed housing development that will take place in the fields behind them
A RESIDENTS’ association is urging people to make their voices heard on major housing proposals before the Government looks at the plans.
The Fens Residents’ Association has organised a public meeting to talk about the implications of proposals to build up to 1,750 new homes on the Fens’ doorstep at Claxton.
The meeting has been arranged for Tuesday, February 28, when Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond and planning officers are due to be there to answer people’s questions.
The residents’ association is opposing any development at Claxton, but has met with planning officials to try to ensure the estate is protected with a significant green wedge if new housing is built.
But it says there are still a lot of unaswered questions.
An association spokesman said: “It is still unclear however, how the serious concerns raised about the proposal will be addressed.
“All in all, a lot of questions remain unanswered.
“The mayor and planning officers will be in attendance to answer questions about what happens next.
“Please attend and make your voice heard.”
The association has questioned the need for so many new houses and has concerns about the impact on the local environment.
And it says no answers have been provided to worries over flooding in the Newark Road area and traffic safety after the Highways Agency said the proposal was unsustainable for development.
The Claxton proposals are included in the council’s Core Strategy that will help shape the future of the town over the next 15 years.
It is now subject to a six-week public consultation before it is submitted to the Government ahead of a public examination.
The meeting will take place at Fens Primary School, Mowbray Road at 7pm.
