Year of Dragon party
A traditional Qi Lin dance is performed outside The Grand Hotel as Hartlepool's Chinese community welcomes in the Year of the Dragon.
SCORES of revellers descended on a hotel to see in the Year of the Dragon.
Around 150 people turned out to celebrate Chinese New Year during a party at The Grand Hotel, in Swainson Street, Hartlepool.
The event was organised by Hartlepool Chinese Association and featured a host of fun, including traditional Qi Lin dancing.
There was also tai chi and traditional Chinese writing workshops, arts and crafts and a host of Asian cuisine on offer.
The event followed on from last year’s Chinese New Year celebrations which were held on a smaller scale at the Lynnfield Centre, in Elcho Street.
Hartlepool Iain Wright was among those who turned up to join in the fun.
He said: “There were about 150 people there and it was such a good-natured event.
“The Chinese economy is growing and any links the town can have with China will reap dividends.
“This was a really good and positive event.”
The 15-day festival started on Monday, January 23, and lasts until next Tuesday.
Chinese people see it as a time to welcome “longevity, wealth and prosperity and to eliminate any negative chi from the past”.
