A festival of dance

Waiting for Video...

FIVE hundred children converged on a Hartlepool theatre for one of the highlights in the town dance world.

The talents of rising young hopefuls were shown off at the Karen Liddle Dance Festival at the Town Hall Theatre in Raby Road, Hartlepool.

Students of eight North-East dance schools took part in the festival, which was held throughout last week.

Organiser Karen Liddle has been putting the contest together each year for 15 years and told the Mail: “It has a lovely and friendly atmosphere which is exactly what we want. All the children get on well with each other.”

Dancers took part each day from Chester-le-Street, Middlesbrough and Trimdon as well as from three dance schools in Hartlepool.

Karen said: “We were getting getting a big turnout of friends and family who were coming along to follow the children.”

The competitors battled for first, second and third spots in sections which include tap, modern, stage and ballet.

There were sections for song and dance, national, modern, character and acro – a mix of dance and acrobatics.

Prizes were available for solos, duets, trios and groups and special awards were given by the competition adjudicators.
