SARAH Elsdon has found her dream job.

The 20-year-old was selected to fill an apprenticeship at the Ready, Steady Grow nursery in Elwick Road, Hartlepool, and has never looked back.

Today, she spoke to Business Update during National Apprentice Week to urge more people to consider apprenticeships as the way forward.

As she played with the nursery’s youngsters, the Dyke House resident and former part-time cinema worker said: “I would recommend an apprenticeship to anyone.

“You are learning all the time and learning every day. It’s a job I have always wanted to do.”

Sarah is now an enthusiastic part of a 10-strong team at the nursery and its deputy manager Carole Blackwood-Wallace explained how the process worked to pick an apprentice.

She said Samantha Pugh, an assessor/tutor with the Adult Education Service, chose potential candidates for the post who were then narrowed down to a shortlist for interview.

“All the shortlisted candidates were good but we could only take one and we chose Sarah. From day one, she has been really enthusiastic. She has thrown herself into the course and into her work here. We are really pleased with her”.

Sarah admitted: “I was quite surprised when I got the apprentice post. I had not had much luck before but this seems ideal.”

Samantha said: “Apprenticeships deliver skills designed around your business needs.

“We offer an individual service tailored to your needs and candidates who are hand picked to suit your vacancy.

“We provide support for the apprentice to ensure that they are a success and on-going support for your business to assist you throughout the process”.
