Caravan under the weather? Call for Ronnie

A LIFETIME'S interest in caravans has paid off for businessman Ronnie McKeith.

The Seaton Carew man has turned a hobby into his own company and now he's on the road offering a caravan repair service.

Ronnie, 53, has started up The Caravan Medic mobile business from his own home. It offers servicing, caravan repairs and bodywork.

Ronnie, who is married to Diane, 46, and has two children Mark, 28, and Sarah, 25, has had numerous jobs over the years.

He ran his own pub in Crook, in County Durham, in his younger days and also worked in hotels in the Lake District.

Now, he has ventured into a new line of work and said: "I have always owned a caravan and always repaired my own."

His decision to go into business for himself was taken when the company he worked for at the time – a car transporter firm – suffered a downturn in orders and started offering staff redundancy packages.

He decided it was time to go it alone and went on courses to learn extra skills such as spraying. Now, the Caravan Medic has been running for two months.

Clientele has so far come from Hartlepool, Wingate, Guisborough, Thirsk and Yorkshire.

Ronnie admitted: "The season has dropped off a little bit. People are starting to save up for Christmas so the trade is slacking off.

"But come February or March, I expect it will be bouncing again."

The ambitious entrepreneur is already planning for the future. He hopes to buy and sell caravans and repair caravans for sale.
