Expanding firm moves to marina

AN accountancy firm has become the latest company to switch home to a former call centre.

Waltons Clark Whitehill is moving into Maritime House – once the home of Garlands – so that it can continue to grow.

The firm, which is currently based in Hartlepool’s Victoria Road, will move into its new 7,000 sq ft home at the town’s marina at the start of March.

All 40 staff will make the switch and bosses say the change has been made to give its workforce more up-to-date office space and to allow the firm to adopt more modern methods of working.

Heather O’Driscoll, managing partner at Waltons Clark Whitehill, said: “We have undergone steady organic growth during recent years.

“These new premises allow us to continue doing that, providing high quality business advice and accountancy services to our clients in fantastic new premises.

“By taking advantage of market conditions, we have been able to make this move in a very cost effective way.

“It means we can benefit from improved working surroundings here in Hartlepool, without having to pass the cost on to our client base.”

The firm was previously called Horwath Clark Whitehill.

It was founded 127 years ago to serve a client base largely centred around the shipping industry.

The Waltons Clark Whitehill move comes just three months after housebuilder Yuill Homes quit its base of more than 40 years at Cecil House, in Loyalty Road, to start work at Tranquility House which used to be another of the Garlands Call Centres buildings at Hartlepool Marina.

Yuill Homes has taken over all four floors of the 14,700 sq ft Tranquility House which it is renting.

The Garlands business collapsed in May 2010 when 621 people were laid off in Hartlepool. A further 359 workers lost their jobs in Middlesbrough as did 178 in South Shields.
