Green firm almost doubles its output in year

A & E Thompson processed 40,000 tonnes of garden waste in 2011, compared to 25,000 the year before.

Bosses at the firm, in Hurworth Burn, near Wingate, put their success down to taking on contracts for Cleveland-based councils last year.

The company, run by husband-and-wife team Andrew and Elizabeth Thompson, was also recently awarded the PAS 100 Standard from the British Composting Association.

Mr Thompson said: “We take green waste from places as far as Saltburn in the south to Seaham in the north.”

The company, set up 10 years ago, has increased its staff from two to six in the past two years.
