AN energy firm based at Hub Two is planning to grow.

Energy Direct (UK) Ltd employs 20 people, including seven apprentices, but six more jobs are on the way.

Head of operations John Shayler said: “We are investing more than £300,000 in new technology and will create six new jobs within the next six months.

“We grew very successfully in UK Steel Enterprises’ (UKSE) Innovation Centre so, when we needed more space, a move into Hub Two was the logical step and our new accommodation is fantastic.

“Every time we need to expand, the UKSE team has done everything possible to accommodate us.”

Its expertise in the energy advice field has attracted blue-chip companies from across the UK.

Its staff helps firms to cut their energy costs, improve efficiency, and increase their competitiveness in difficult times. And thanks to its subsidiary Power 4 Pubs, the company is now the leading energy consultant to the licensing trade working with chains such as Enterprise Inns.

UK Steel Enterprise began in 1975 and can provide tailored financial packages for businesses of up to £750,000 for the right project.

Hartlepool companies such as Hart Biologicals, Durable Technologies, Duraflex Agency and J & B Recycling have all been backed by UKSE investments.

Simon Hamilton, regional manager for UKSE, said: “We are supporting local businesses that are doing very well despite, or in some cases by actually taking advantage of, the current economic situation.

“Young companies need all the help they can get and our aim is to support them as they grow, create jobs and contribute to a sound business sector for the town.”
