THE stunned boss of a Hartlepool business has told of his delight after being chosen to represent the town in a national competition.
Town firm Get More Time has clinched further success in the Local Business Accelerators challenge.
It will now fight it out with winners from other areas in the bid to be crowned national champions, with a national prize of mentoring from Dragon’s Den panellist Deborah Meaden at stake.
Get More Time is a medical sales and marketing company based at the Hartlepool Enterprise Centre and faced tough opposition in the quest just to be chosen as the best in Hartlepool.
Three firms won a prize for being best in town which was a substantial allocation of free advertising space in the pages of the Hartlepool Mail, as well as mentoring from senior figures from the local business community.
But from the list of three, one had to be picked by Alby Pattison, managing director of Hart Biologicals, Pam Hargreaves, a Hartlepool Borough councillor and director of town company XIVII, John Megson, Hartlepool Business Forum co-ordinator, and Hartlepool Mail editor Joy Yates, to move on to the national stages.
As well as Get More Time, 1st 4 Solar and Place in the Park, were also in the running.
But the judges agreed on Get More Time, whose managing director Jason Wilson, said: “I am thrilled that Get More Time is representing the Hartlepool Mail in this national competition.
“These are very challenging times and, like many small businesses, we have our own challenges as an organisation.
“However, we can also see great opportunities for the future.”
The judges praised the winner.
Mr Pattison said: “The potential that this company has both in Hartlepool and outside did help the judges to make it a clear winner.”
Coun Hargreaves told the Mail: “It was a tough choice because all of the individual businesses have their own merits, but I think we are confident that we have chosen the right winner for the competition.”
Ms Yates said: “The Mail looks forward to working with all three companies in the future.”
And Mr Megson added: “I think Jason will benefit from the mentoring and I think we are all in a position to give him guidance.”
