Cops stop drink driver at more than three-and-a-half times the limit in Sunderland

Garry Nichol, 34, was stopped by police driving a Citroen in Silksworth Lane, Silksworth, on Monday, March 22.
A breath test revealed Nichol, of Ashdown Road, Farringdon, had 124microgrammes of alcohol in 100millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

Hide AdHe was also driving without a licence or insurance, magistrates in South Tyneside were told.
They adjourned the case for reports but gave Nichol an interim driving ban after the admitted the charges.
He will be sentenced at the same court on Tuesday, June 8, and was granted unconditional bail.
Joanne Gatens, defending, said: “It’s a reading of 124mcgs in breath. You’re going to need reports.

Hide Ad“I suggest it will be an all options report. There is a significant amount of mitigation to be put forward on behalf of Mr Nichol.”
Prosecutor John Graham added: “I’ve nothing more to add. That’s a very sensible approach.”
