I’m alright Jack
AFTER the 2012 State of the Borough Address (Mail, January 26), Mayor Drummond has shown once again just how out of touch he appears to be with public opinion in Hartlepool.
A total number of 17 questions were put to Mayor Drummond, and I believe I am not alone in thinking that a clear, analytical and reasoned response wasn’t forthcoming to any of them.
The recent decision by Mr Drummond to accept the chairmanship of the Cleveland Police Authority, and the allowance of £28,000 that goes with it, was the catalyst for a number of questions.
The Mayor it seems has no problem with the fact that, despite his oft quoted statement of the Mayor’s position being a 24/7 job, he finds no contradiction in his acceptance as the chair of the CPA.
The Mayor appeared to be the only person present who was under the impression that there was nothing wrong with having two full-time public jobs.
He openly stated: “I didn’t put myself through elections for the money; It is not about the money”.
He then followed this statement by saying: “I have no intention of foregoing any allowance“.
This at a time when 88 people have lost their jobs with Hartlepool Borough Council recently.
