175 homes for former pub site
PLANNERS are expected to approve proposals to build 175 homes on the site of a former hotel and garage.
Persimmon Homes wants to build the homes, a fifth of which would be affordable housing, in Shotton.
The properties would be situated on land north of Station Road and east of Salter’s Lane, including the site of the former Fleming Hotel and Bruntons Garage.
The application for the 5.3 hectare site had originally been for 204 houses but has since been decreased following negotiations.
It would feature two, three, and four-bedroom houses and bungalows and a village green space.
The application has been met with eight objections and two letters of support, with increased traffic, the scale of the development, impact on wildlife and flooding being cited as reasons for opposition.
Planning officers have recommended that the proposals be approved when the project is heard at Durham County Council’s county planning committee meeting tomorrow.
