A fairytale wedding

EVER wondered whether dreams do come true?

Just ask Kirsty Hope and Chris Colley. They met one day, got engaged the next and walked down the aisle for a fantastic medieval wedding in a castle just a year later.

And as they reminisced on the story of a lifetime, Kirsty, 30, admitted: "My fairytale became reality."

The Seaton Carew couple tied the knot dressed as a medieval knight and a princess. Their young son Henry was there in his own plastic suit of armour.

And to top the day off, the couple arranged for a falconry display at their wedding at Lumley Castle, in County Durham.

But first, we turn the clock back to October 13, 2006, when the romance started.

Chris, 27, was working as an IT technician. His job that day was to fix a broken computer at the nursery where Kirsty was working.

"It was love at first sight," said Chris.

The couple made each other laugh and got on like a house on fire.

He returned to finish the computer repair the next day and Chris and Kirsty arranged to meet later that evening for a pizza and a bottle of wine at her home.

The pair were playing a board game and Kirsty remembers: "He bent down to play the game and pulled out a box and handed it to me. It was an engagement ring.

"I blinked and we were married! It was a whirlwind romance."

She still describes her wedding day as "the best day of my life".

Chris remembers how the idea of a medieval wedding materialised.

He recalled: "We both woke up at 3am one day simultaneously and talked about getting married. We had originally planned it all at a church in Hartlepool but we said 'what about doing something different and getting married in a castle? Then we decided that we might as well have the whole kit and caboodle."

Kirsty said: "My dad always said I was a princess. That's when I said 'why don't I get married in a castle'."

The engaged couple then began the search for the costumes and memorabilia to make the day complete.

It took them on internet searches to Houston, Texas, to Scotland and to Wales. There were links to celebrities along the way.

Kirsty said: "My head dress came from Houston. It was designed by the person who made the headdresses for the Lord of the Rings movie. We had to get a few pieces of costume from Wales. The groom's costume was made by the guy who made things for Robocop and Madonna was there getting something for a movie she was doing."

Young son Henry looked resplendent as a knight in armour but Kirsty remembers: "He had wanted to be a dragon but I couldn't get him a costume that small."

The bridesmaids were Geraldine Groom and Linda Richardson and best man was Colin Maddison.

Kirsty's son Henry Thompson also walked down the aisle with the bridesmaids.

Chris and Kirsty enjoyed a first dance to the Peter Cetera song Glory of Love.

A falconry display was hired for the wedding and Chris admits: "It was certainly a novel wedding."

Kirsty, of Harvester Close, added: "I just keep on thinking this was the best day of my life. It was certainly my fairytale coming true."

The heartwarming story continues to get even better. The couple now have a new addition to the family.

Baby daughter Evelyn came into the world six weeks ago.
