A right Royal affair for college visit
HERE is a chance to see more pictures from the Royal visit at Hartlepool College of Further Education.
Hundreds of people turned out to get a glimpse of the Duke of York, HRH Prince Andrew, who opened the new £53m Stockton Street campus.
The Duke, a former Royal Navy pilot, was impressed with the college’s commitment to education and apprenticeships when he officially unveiled the state-of-the-art building on Thursday.
Unveiling a plaque, he said: “I wish the staff every success – you are mentors to these young people.
“It’s upon your work and leadership and inspiration that these young people are going to depend.”
College principal and chief executive Michael Bretherick told the Hartlepool Mail: “The Duke was very, very well-briefed, and showed a great interest in further education.
“He was very interested in the students and was particularly interested in the difficulty students have in securing employment because of the level of youth unemployment.
“He was very interested in talking about careers education in schools and how young people come to make the choices they do.
“I an delighted that he came.”
Hundreds of students, along with college staff, governors and employers who support the college’s apprenticeship scheme got to meet the Duke during his tour.
