All the fun of the fair on offer for villagers
THERE will be something for everyone at an annual village festival.
Shotton Colliery's 10th village festival will be held tomorrow and Shotton Community Centre, off Bridge Road, will be the new venue for many of the attractions.
A parade will start at 10.30am from the Community Park, in Marcia Avenue, and follows the miners' banner through the village to the community centre, where all the usual attractions will be situated.
Entertainment in the marquee will include performances from singers and musicians, along with Ilett Carr's School of Dance and Pat's Puppets.
Festival goers can relax and enjoy the entertainment, while tucking in to the snacks on offer in the community centre caf.
Outside entertainment will include one of the festival's favourite attractions – the Western Town, along with the Army and displays from the jazz bands.
There will be a "beat the goalie" competition, fairground attractions and a variety of stalls, including tombola and raffle.
The festival costs around 5,500 to stage and various events have been held over the past year to help raise funds. Organisers are hoping for an improvement in the unsettled weather conditions of last year but said that should it be cold or wet then the community centre will provide better cover than the park.
Shotton's main through road will be closed from 10.15am until 11.15am tomorrow to allow the procession of banners, jazz bands and fancy dress competitors to parade to the community centre.
