A TOWN footballer was told he will not be paid until the end of the season after yet more bad news for crisis-club Darlington.
Former Hartlepool United full-back Paul Arnison has not received any wages from Darlington since the end of November last year as the Blue Square Premier club battle a third stint in administration.
Paul, 34, who lives in Granville Avenue, Hartlepool, said the players were confident there were finally going to be told some good news this week.
But Paul said the players were told at a meeting yesterday not to expect any wages until the end of the season.
Paul, who has two young children, has now put his house and Audi car up for sale in a bid to generate funds.
He admitted the 10 senior professional players who remain on the books at the club are finding it tough.
“In what other job would you find yourself working for nothing at all?” said Paul, who other than the occasional match fee has received no wages at all now for four months.
“It’s tough, we have families to support and we have bills to pay.”
Paul admitted the club’s financial troubles are affecting performances on the pitch.
A run of defeats coupled with a 10-point deduction for entering administration means the club are now in the bottom reaches of the league.
Paul added: “We don’t know what is going to happen from day-to-day and it is hard to put that completely out of your mind when you go on the pitch.”
