Apprentice event a fair success
People at the apprenticeship fair
MORE than 300 people turned up to improve their employability chances at an apprenticeship fair.
Twenty employers were on hand during the event, which was held at Hartlepool College of Further Education.
College bosses said the fair attracted people from as far as Durham City, Sedgefield and Easington, with apprenticeships open to people of all ages.
Would-be apprentices can now sign up for one of the college’s 180-plus apprentice courses and be placed with local and regional companies.
Organisations which took part included Caterpillar, Darchem Engineering, Hartlepool Borough Council, Heerema, Gus Robinson Developments, Huntsman, Wilton Engineering, Vela housing group, EDF Energy and Poppys Hairdressing.
The event was held during National Apprenticeship Week and a college spokeswoman said: “This event will absolutely help the town’s unemployment situation.
“It was a testament to the amount of people who turned up, thinking ‘now I want to do some further education and training, but get paid for it by doing an apprenticeship’.
“It was a great success and the employers were thoroughly pleased with it.”
