BREAKING NEWS: A19 closed after motorcyclist hurt

A BUSY dual-carriageway had to be closed after a motorcyclist hit a tyre in the road.

The rider of yellow Megelli motorcycle, who is a 22-year-old Hartlepool man, fell from the bike on the southbound carriageway of the A19 between the A689 and the A1027.

He is believed to have been trapped under the bike when emergency services arrived just after 8.10am today, but was conscious and breathing.

Paramedics arrived and took the man to the University Hospital of North Tees in Stockton suffering from leg injuries.

Cleveland Police closed the road until the bike, tyre and debris had been removed, causing delays for commuters, but it was re-opened at 8.35am.

A police spokeswoman said: “A motorcyclist hit a tyre in the lane and he became trapped under the motorbike.

“The incident caused a lot of problems on the A19 and the southbound carriageway had to be closed. It was reopened a short-time later.”
