BREAKING NEWS: Lorry driver arrested after cyclist killed on A19

A LORRY driver has been arrested after a cyclist was killed on the A19 this morning.

The southbound lanes of the A19 were blocked by police just past the junction with the A689 at Wolvistion after an incident at 7.10am this morning.

Police are currently investigating the scene of a collision that saw a cyclist fatally injured after colliding with a lorry.

The driver has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.

Investigators expected the road to be reopened this morning but it was still shut at noon. They now hope to be able to allow vehicles back through in the early afternoon.

Traffic heading south was queuing as far back as Easington during rush hour while northbound traffic was also heavily delayed.
