Burglars strike at property
BURGLARS broke into an unoccupied house and removed a full window – including the frame – while trying to swipe the property's contents.
But the house was under-going renovation ready for a woman to move in and all the culprits escaped with was a steam cleaner, four deckchairs and a curtain pole.
Detectives in Peterlee are appealing for information on anyone who may have been seen in Ninth Street, Horden, with two 4ft frames that made up the window.
Police believe one possible motive for removing the windows could have been because the suspect may have cut themselves on the glass and wanted to cover their tracks.
Detective Constable Neil Robinson, of Peterlee CID, said: "The incident took place between midnight on Saturday and some time into Sunday morning.
"The suspect took the whole of the kitchen window out, including the frame, to gain access.
"It was an empty house and the only property inside was a steam cleaner and deck chairs which the woman who was in the process of moving in was using to re-decorate."
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Peterlee CID on (0345) 6060365 or Crimestoppers anonymously on (0800) 555111.
