Cut free after crash
Firefighters and paramedics at the scene of the crash at the junction of Elwick Road, Baden Street and Arncliffe Gardens
A MOTORIST had to be cut free from his car after it crashed into a shop.
The man was carried into an ambulance on a spinal board after his Vauxhall Corsa careered off the road.
It had been involved in a collision with a Ford Mondeo estate car at around 12.40pm yesterday.
The Corsa had spun in the road before hitting the Cool Appliances shop in Elwick Road, near to the junctions with Baden Street and Arncliffe Gardens.
Police, paramedics and two fire engines were called to the scene and the road was closed for more than two hours.
The driver of the Corsa was taken to the University Hospital of North Tees, in Stockton, with numbness to his left side and shoulder pain.
A witness to the crash, who did not want to be named, said: “The cars hit each other and the Corsa span around and was stopped by the shop.
“It looked bad and I hope the lad is ok because it looked serious when they were cutting him out.”
The driver of the Ford Mondeo was also taken to the Stockton hospital with neck pain.
