Egg-citing activities

FAMILIES dodged the drizzle to enjoy a host of Easter entertainment at a popular park.

The Friends of Ward Jackson Park, in Hartlepool, laid on activities for all ages during a showery Easter Sunday, while similar fun was had by families at Castle Eden Dene Nature Reserve, in Peterlee.

Despite the poor weather, around 1,000 people enjoyed the fun at the park, which included a bouncy castle, penalty shoot-out, bungee jump, Walk on Water balls and trampolining.

There were also various stalls, fairground rides, face-painting, the Families First playbus, an Easter Egg hunt with 200 prizes given to the children who took part, Easter bonnet-making and craft sessions led by Hartlepool Borough Council’s wildlife team.

Joyce Kaiser, a member of The Friends of Ward Jackson Park, said this was the park’s 14th annual Easter event and added: “It was very well-attended, people seemed to enjoy themselves and there was a happy atmosphere.”

Meanwhile, around 80 people visited Castle Eden National Nature Reserve, off Stanhope Chase, in Peterlee, to enjoy Easter activities.

Fun sessions included egg-decorating, Easter card-making, word-searches, Easter basket-making and egg jarping.

Joe Davies, community outreach advisor for Natural England at Castle Eden Dene, said: “We got fully booked and had to run it over two days.

“It was family-orientated, for children up to 12 and all the feedback we got was positive.”

Meanwhile, Mrs Kaiser has appealed for new members to join the Friends of Ward Jackson Park committee.

They can go along to the group’s annual general meeting, to be held at the Place in the Park cafe, within Ward Jackson Park, from 2pm on April 30 or call (01429) 275986 to find out more.
