Man had stash of cannabis

A MAN who was caught with a cannabis stash in his home has been landed with a £135 court bill.

Police were searching a house in Lancaster Road, Hartlepool, for a man wanted on suspicion of several offences when Paul Campion walked in.

Despite not being the man officers were looking for the 26-year-old told them that there was cannabis in the building and that it was for his own use.

Prosecuting, Chris Atkinson told Hartlepool Magistrates’ Court: “Police entered a house in Lancaster Road searching for a male wanted on suspicion of a variety of offences.

“On entering the property they noticed a strong smell of cannabis.

“The defendant arrived at the house, and although he was not the man they were looking for he told police that there was cannabis in the premises which belonged to him and he revealed the drug in different areas of the house

“He said it was for his own personal use and said he was keeping them in his own home for that purpose.”

Campion, of Lancaster Road, represented himself in court and pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis on January 6.

Chairman of the bench Anthony Raine fined him £80, ordered him to pay £45 costs and a £15 victim surcharge.
