MPs briefed on airport future
SENIOR politicians have been briefed on the drive to secure the future of Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Peel Investments, a subsidiary of the Peel Group last week became the majority shareholder of the airport.
Following the announcement, Peter Nears, planning director for the group held talks with the Shadow Transport Secretary Maria Eagle and Louise Ellman MP, chair of Commons Transport Select Committee.
Mr Nears stressed to them the importance of the airport to the local community and economy and is now beginning a round of meetings with local MPs.
He has already met with Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson who called for a ‘public service obligation’ during a recent debate in Parliament which would protect slots at Heathrow for a link to Durham Tees Valley Airport.
Mr Nears said: “I was grateful for the chance to brief Phil Wilson together with Maria Eagle and Louise Ellman on our thoughts as to how we can secure the future of the airport and will be seeking a continuing dialogue with all our local MPs and key stakeholders.”
