Police widen student search

POLICE investigating the disappearance of a missing exchange student have widened their search.

Konjit Assefa, 22, was one of a party of Ethiopians visiting Hartlepool as part of the Global Xchange programme and was staying on the Headland.

She was last seen in the town centre on Tuesday lunchtime and is the fourth member of the party to have gone missing.

Three students disappeared on a trip to London, though one of them was found and deported.

Cleveland Police have been told of a possible sighting of her outside a pub near to Thornaby railway station and there has also been a report that she has been spotted in Dublin.

Inspector Carl Broughton said: "We are widening the net for the search."
