Question time as student puts PM on spot
GORDON Brown faced a different kind of question time when he was put on the spot by a campaigning student.
Anthony Day, 20, quizzed the Prime Minister over issues facing today's young generation.
Also on the agenda when he met the Prime Minister in Newcastle last night was the Princess Diana Award scheme, for which he is an ambassador.
Anthony earned a private audience after earlier phoning up Downing Street and being put straight through to Mr Brown, as previously reported by the Mail.
Today Anthony, of Alfred Street, Hartlepool, said: "It was great. He remembered me as I have met him a couple of times before and I managed to ask him four or five questions that I wanted to ask him for the Diana Award.
"It went really well. I didn't expect to get as much time with him as I did.
"I think his team were trying to move him on but he stayed and answered a couple more questions."
The encounter was the third time Anthony had met Mr Brown after an invite to Downing Street in January for the 10th anniversary of the Diana Princess of Wales Memorial Award for Inspirational Young People and another meeting at Newcastle's Sage music centre.
Last night Mr Brown was at the city's Discovery Museum for a public question and answer session.
After it ended Anthony met him for the private face-to-face interview.
Anthony said: "I asked him how he thought the Government could harness the power and will of young people to try to build a better future and other questions about the economy and Diana Award."
The session was recorded and will be uploaded to the Diana Award Channel, a website launched last July, to allow all award holders to share views, audio and video.
Anthony, who is studying accounting at Hartlepool College of Further Education in Stockton Street, received the award in December 2007 for inspiring others through promotion of Fairtrade products locally and nationally.
The scheme, which celebrates young people's achievements, is open to nominations from any school or youth organisation in the country.
Anthony is now working to try to secure a similar interview with Conservative leader David Cameron.
