Star designer's wedding belles

DOZENS of brides-to-be were left star-struck when a world famous designer turned up to showcase his dresses at a community centre.

Scott Henshall was at Horden Social Welfare Centre for the first bridal fair hosted by Horden Parish Council.

Scott, 33, appeared in the Mail last week and told how brides in Hartlepool and east Durham could soon be wearing one of his wedding dresses after striking up a deal with Horden bridalwear shop Mon Ami.

The deal means brides can get their hands on one of his designs from 600.

The designer hit national headlines in 2004 when he created a 5m diamond cobweb dress for Irish singer Samantha Mumba to wear to the Spiderman 2 premiere. He went on to appear on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

The parish council's assistant clerk, Gaynor Crute, said the fair was a huge success, with about 100 people turning up and some prospective brides booking the centre for their wedding receptions.

Designs from Scott, whose parents Nigel and Mavis live in Dalton Piercy, near Hartlepool, were complemented by products and services from local businesses.

They included Regal Print, The Village Florist, Cakes 4 U, Craggs Catering, A J Accessories and local hairdressers, disco providers, wedding planners, car hire companies, a financial advisor and a representative from Slimming World.

Mrs Crute said: "It went really well and all the exhibitors thought it was fantastic. We had a lot of positive feedback from it. We got a few bookings for wedding receptions.

"Everybody loved Scott's designs and they were absolutely gorgeous. He said Mon Ami was one of the best shops in the North-East for bridalwear.

"He was very nice and went around and mixed with everyone. He was really down to earth. It really made the event for us. We weren't sure whether he was going to be able to make it or not.

"We were really lucky to have a big designer name there for our first-ever exhibition."
