The white fantastic?
MOTORISTS are being urged to take care after a mixture of snow, rain and ice created treacherous driving conditions that look set to last more than a week.
Met Office forecasters predict the latest cold snap could last 10 days and have issued a weather warning telling drivers to take care in "very dangerous" icy conditions.
Temperatures are set to average around -1C in the coming days, with the temperature plummeting even further at night time.
Despite heavy snow yesterday, Hartlepool has so far missed out on the worst of the snow that has hit east Durham and other northern areas.
Although a lot of the snow has melted in Hartlepool, freezing temperatures has seen it turn to ice. But more wintry showers are expected over the weekend and into next week.
A spokesman for the Met Office said: "Hartlepool and its surrounding areas are going to see a period of wintry conditions as temperatures once again drop.
"High ground, such as in County Durham, will see very wintry conditions."
But bosses at Hartlepool United managed to ward off the bad weather by covering the pitch, before an early moring pitch inspection gave the go ahead for today's match against Oldham.
