THE work of a councillor in helping a fishing club to get off the ground has been honoured with the unveiling of a plaque.
Wheatley Hill Angling Club has thanked Thornley councillor Brian Wilson for all the help he has given members.
Members have planted a cherry blossom tree and installed a plaque near the car park of the club’s base, a wooded area off Wingate Lane, in Wheatley Hill.
Coun Wilson, who represents Thornley on Durham County Council, has been instrumental in helping the club, including with planning-related issues or with any operational problems they might have encountered.
Club secretary Jonathan Naisbett said: “Brian has been absolutely fantastic.
“We have had a lot of hard work, dedication and money from Brian.”
