Finalists at The Academy at Shotton Hall demonstrated their amazing abilities in the finals of '˜Shotton's got Talent' and on the last day of term, seven finalists sang, danced and beat-boxed their hearts out to claim the prize. The winner was Alex Todd with her amazing voice and runner-up was Kayla Nichol with her expressive dance performance. Well done to everyone who took part '“ it takes a lot of guts to perform in front of the whole school, so well done. The other finalists were: Courtney Hadwin, Emily Atkinson, Kaitlyn Bell, Lottie Willis, Elisa Degortes and Grace Molyneux.

East Durham Trust is holding a Free Fab Family Fun Day on Thursday from 10.30am to 1.30pm in Community House with arts and crafts, picnic buffet and face painting.

Digital Champion volunteer John Crich, who helps people learn how to use their phones, laptops or tablets, has been nominated for a prestigious award.

Well done to those who were in The Academy at Shotton Hall Year 7 Glee Club performances. Every one of the Year 7s took part singing and dancing on stage in front of the rest of the year group. After weeks of Glee Club practice sessions, students took to the stage with Miss Pee, Mr Harrison and Mr Robson to perform their songs. The sessions were designed to prove that everyone can take part in performing arts, no matter what their ability.

The Sports Afternoon raffle at Cotsford Infants School raised £117 for the school fund.

Shotton Hall Craft and Food Fayre will be held on Sunday from 10am to 4pm with rides, live music, foods of the world, cakes and bakes and lots of wonderful crafts as well as a bar.

Blood donor sessions will be held in Peterlee Methodist Church hall on Tuesday, August 23, from 2.05 to 4pm and 4.50pm to 7.05pm. There are limited walk in slots and appointments can be made.

Peterlee Walking Club organises graded walks each month for all abilities and transport is usually arranged by the club, leaving from Peterlee Lodge car park on Sunday at 8.30am. The next walk will be on Sunday to Osmotherly. For information, ring 0191 5863009.

Pig Race Night will be held on Friday at 6pm at Roseby Road Wellbeing Centre. There will be fun for all the family, a great night full of laughs. An East Durham College IT student’s work in the local community has been nominated for a prestigious national award. John Crich, 17, from Shotton Colliery, was a finalist in the 2016 Tech4Good awards in the Volunteer of the Year category. He worked as a volunteer Digital Champion with Time to Get Online with County Durham Housing Group, a digital inclusion project that pairs volunteers with people who want to learn how to use their smartphone, tablet or laptop, or who want help in using online services. John is in the process of developing a web-based community forum which the public will be able to access free of charge, with guides and a facility to submit questions with a personal response.
