Hignett will be at Victoria Park on Monday morning to join Jeff, Ray ‘Butch’ Wilkins and Alastair Campbell and many more for the first of 10 marathons in 10 days.

Stelling and Co are on the Men United March in aid of Prostate Cancer UK, walking 10 marathons all the way to Wembley Stadium.

Hignett said he was joining the walk after the Hartlepool United president joined him and Colin Cooper on the climb of Kilimanjaro in the summer of 2013 to raise cash for the Finlay Cooper Fund.

“I’m going to do the first leg with him on Monday,” said Hignett.

“It’s only right because he walked up Kilmanjaro with me and Colin.

“Jeff is doing this Men United walk and we on Monday go from Hartlepool to Markse.

“It’s all walking, no running.

“No, I’ve not trained, but what’s the worst that can happen? I walk 26 miles and feel knackered from it!

“All the players will chuck in and sponsor me for it because they are a great bunch.

“It’s about the awareness of the charity and what Jeff is doing is fantastic.”

Stelling will be joined by some heavyweight support - ex-England midfield Wilkins and Campbell, journalist, broadcaster, political aide and Burnley fan.

And Pools chief executive Russ Green!

“Russ is doing it all with him, every step to Wembley,” said Craig.

“Let’s give Russ some support too as he’s got some weight to carry around.”

The walkers depart Victoria Park at 8am on Monday.
