FORMER Hartlepool United youngster Callum Hassan is bidding to relaunch his career after insisting he wasn’t given a fair chance at Victoria Park.

The 19-year-old was released by Pools last month having made just one senior outing for the club.

Hassan is now on the hunt for a new employer and has fielded interest from a number of League Two and BlueSquare Premier outfits.

The powerful striker has every confidence that he’ll find his way in League football, but feels he deserved more of an opportunity with Pools.

“I’d certainly say that I wasn’t given enough of a chance,” said Hassan, whose sole appearance came as a substitute during the goalless draw at Exeter City in January.

“I wish I’d been given more opportunities, especially at Victoria Park.

“I had a good relationship with the fans and they seemed to be asking why I wasn’t playing more.

“If I’d been given that chance then it would have helped me develop.

“All of the coaches used to say that I had all of the attributes such as pace and strength, I just needed to bring them all together, because I admit I was a little bit raw at times.

“But the best way to do that is through games, so it was disappointing that never happened.”

Hassan’s mother, Ann, passed away in March, 2011, and he admits that hindered his progress during that season.

However, the London-born youngster – who was previously on the books of Middlesbrough – is now fully focused on rebuilding his career.

“It was hard when my mum died,” he told SportMail, “And I probably took a step back.

“I had a couple of little injuries as well but felt I was coming good towards the back end of last season.

“I suppose I wasn’t too surprised when I was released but I was hoping to get another deal.

“It’s up to me now to get over that and prove myself.

“There’s been interest from some League Two and BlueSquare clubs and I’ll be going on trial over the next few weeks once teams start to come back for pre-season training.

“Wherever I end up I just want the chance to show what I can do at first-team level.

“I’ve had a great grounding at Hartlepool and I thank the club for that, but the best of me is yet to come and I can’t wait to show that at a new club next season.”
