NEALE Cooper will speak to Newcastle United about bringing trialist Samuel Adjei to Victoria Park on a short-term deal, writes CRAIG HOPE.

The Swedish forward is set to be released by the Magpies at the end of this season and he has spent the past week training with the Pools squad at Maiden Castle.

Cooper believes the pacey Adjei offers “something different” to what he has already at his disposal and the Scot looks set to make a move for the 20-year-old.

The Ghanaian-born ace was one of the few plus points to emerge from Wednesday’s 1-0 reserve team defeat to Rotherham United.

And Cooper told SportMail today: “We could look to bring him in.

“It depends what the situation is with Newcastle, but they have been great with us.

“The only problem is he’s hardly played any football over the last few years because of injury.

“He’s had problems with his hamstrings and that was a concern.

“But since he’s came in here he’s looked strong and fit.

“He’s worked well in training and has looked good.

“He got through a full game on Wednesday and looked good in what was a poor performance from the reserves.

“But he looked bright and got at people and he offers something different.

“He’s been a pleasure to have in here and he’s one we might look to add.”

Steven Irwin, the former Liverpool trainee, continues to train with Pools but Cooper is concerned that he is a little short of match fitness.

Meanwhile, it looks as if Sunderland striker Ryan Noble will not be coming to the Vic.

The 20-year-old was the subject of a loan approach from Pools but Cooper says the player himself was not interested.

“We were keen, but how keen the lad was I don’t know,” he explained.

“Anyone who comes in has to want to be here.

“We’re always looking. I went to see Sunderland reserves on Tuesday afternoon.

“It’s hard to bring someone in when the lads are doing so well, but I still think we need strength in depth heading into a busy period.

“Sometimes clubs say they want their players to play, but we can’t guarantee that.”
