HARTLEPOOL United are to run a ‘midnight league’ after receiving a £20,00 funding boost.
Hartlepool United Community Sports Foundation (HUCSF) will deliver free, two-weekly sessions during a 40-week programme of activities including football and multi-sports.
The Coalfields Regeneration Trust has funded £20,000 working in partnership with the Football League Trust (FLT) to deliver the social inclusion programme including the ‘midnight league’.
HUCSF Development Officer, Keith Nobbs said “It’s a great opportunity for local pupils to attend free coaching sessions that will be fun and enjoyable with the added benefit of selecting different excursions that they are interested in.
“It also gives older pupils the chance to volunteer and gain qualifications by helping the younger groups”.
Sessions take place at Easington Community Science College each Tuesday 5pm – 8pm starting Tuesday, June 19, and East Durham College each Friday 5pm – 8pm starting Friday, June 22.
Regular excursions will be provided for participants who attend on a regular basis.
Sessions will be for 8-12 year olds for one and half hours and 13-19 year olds for another one and half hours.
The sessions will help to encourage young people in deprived areas to be active, respect their local area and amenities, raise aspirations and help to reduce local behaviour hot spots by offering coaching in a safe working environment.
Participants will have the chance to gain qualifications such as Young Leaders Award, Sports Leaders UK, Asdan Football Course and helping with their educational needs and have a chance to volunteer to improve social harmony in the local community.
