Premier League TV changes announced for SAFC and NUFC
FIVE of Sunderland’s Premier League fixtures have been rearranged for live television coverage.
Sunderland will first be on television when Liverpool visit the Stadium of Light on Saturday, September 15, with the game now taking place at the later kick-off time of 5.30pm for live broadcast on ESPN.
The trip to Manchester City on Saturday, October 6 will also have a new kick-off time, a 12.45pm start to be shown on Sky Sports.
Sunderland’s other televised games are all on Sky Sports too, starting with the Wear-Tyne derby tussle against Newcastle which has been put back 24 hours to Sunday, October 21 (kick-off 1.30pm).
The Black Cats’ game at Fulham has also been moved to a Sunday, with Martin O’Neill’s side now heading to Craven Cottage on Sunday, November 18 (kick-off 4pm).
Finally, West Brom’s game at the Stadium of Light will now take place on Sunday, November 25 (kick-off 1.30pm).
Meanwhile, six of Newcastle’s Premier League fixtures have been chosen for live broadcast in the first part of the season.
ESPN have chosen to show United’s first two games of the season, starting with the home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at the Sports Direct Arena, and then the Magpies’ trip to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea the following week.
Sky Sports have selected away fixtures at Everton, Sunderland and Liverpool, as well as the home clash with Manchester United.
The 2012/13 season begins with Spurs at home on Saturday, 18th August, which will now kick-off at 5.30pm and not the original time of 3pm. United’s visit to Chelsea on Saturday, 25th August, is also a 5.30pm kick-off.
The trip to Everton will now be a Monday night affair. It was due to be played on Saturday, 15th September, but will instead be played on Monday, 17th September, with an 8pm kick-off.
Manchester United at home has been rearranged from Saturday, 6th October, to the following day (Sunday, 7th October) with a 4pm kick-off, while unsurprisingly the Tyne-Wear derby later that month will also be broadcast live. That match, at the Stadium of Light, will now be on Sunday, 21st October, kicking-off at 1.30pm.
Finally, Newcastle’s visit to Anfield - the scene of some memorable matches against Liverpool over the years - will also take place on a Sunday. It was due to be played on Saturday, 3rd November, but will now kick-off at 4pm on Sunday, 4th November.
In addition to the live broadcasts, two other fixtures have also been moved.
The Magpies’ home game against Aston Villa will now be played on Sunday, 2nd September, kicking off at 4pm, but will not be televised.
This fixture has been moved from Saturday to Sunday as a result of the Club’s UEFA Europa League play-off second leg match, which will take place on Thursday, 30th August.
And the second Tyne-Wear derby match of the campaign - at home against Sunderland, will remain on Saturday, 13th April, but with an earlier kick-off time of 1.30pm at the request of Northumbria Police.
