Vurnon Anita looks for good news from Newcastle United

APOLOGY: Alan Pardew

APOLOGY: Alan Pardew

VURNON Anita is seeking assurances about his future role at Newcastle United before committing to the club.

Ajax have accepted a £6.6million bid from Newcastle for the versatile player.

And Anita – who will be offered a five-year deal – is set for talks on Tyneside in the next 24 hours.

The Holland international wants to know what role United manager Alan Pardew has earmarked for him for Tyneside.

Anita can play at left-back, Davide Santon’s position, and in central midfield, where Yohan Cabaye and Cheik Tiote are Pardew’s first-choice pairing.

And the 22-year-old is looking for assurances that he will be more than a squad player at United.

“We have an offer from Newcastle United, but we are not in Newcastle yet,” said Anita’s father.

“Newcastle and Ajax have agreed a fee, but Vurnon wants to know what plans the Newcastle head coach (Pardew) has for him.

“Will Vurnon play at right-back, left back or in the midfield?”

“These are important questions for Vurnon in making his final decision. He doesn’t know the answer yet.”

Anita is on standby to fly to Newcastle from Amsterdam for talks, having revealed Newcastle had had a bid accepted for him after playing for Ajax on Sunday.

“We have not received an invitation from Newcastle United to come to England,” his father added.

“For now, we will just stay in the Netherlands.

“If the conversation between the head coach of Newcastle United and Vurnon goes in a positive manner, then the move can go through.

“It may be done within a week.”
