Aiden McGeady has made his full debut for Charlton Athletic – albeit in an unfamiliar role.

The 33-year-old joined the Valley outfit on deadline day, penning a loan deal until the end of the season.

And having made a first appearance for the Addicks off the bench during the 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in midweek, McGeady was handed a start against Blackburn Rovers.

Lee Bowyer opted to play the Sunderland loanee as part of a central midfield three, and McGeady saw plenty of the ball in the early stages.

But it was to little avail as Charlton fell to a 2-0 defeat – with McGeady withdrawn on 69 minutes as Bowyer bemoaned a lack of quality in the final third.

"I thought we started we started well, in the first 15 minutes I thought that we were the brighter side,” he said.

“We lacked a bit of quality in the final third. Blackburn then got their goal and I thought for the last half an hour of the first half I thought they were better than us.”

Meanwhile, Jack Baldwin helped Salford City to another clean sheet on the road as they beat relegation-threatened Stevenage at the Lamex Stadium.

Baldwin was handed a start and completed the full 90 minutes as the Ammies saw out a narrow 1-0 triumph courtesy of Brandon Thomas-Asante’s first half header.

Jordan Hunter wasn’t in action for South Shields as they headed to Grantham Town, with the Mariners claiming a 3-1 victory.
