Sunderland in scrap for points with QPR

SEB LARSSON insists Sunderland are in a points scrap themselves as they prepare to tackle a QPR side fighting for their Premier League lives.

Sunderland face a second successive outing against a team engulfed in the relegation battle tomorrow when fourth bottom QPR visit the Stadium of Light.

Mark Hughes registered only the second win of his Loftus Road reign on Wednesday with a remarkable late comeback against Liverpool to move two points clear of danger.

But they face a Black Cats side intent on erasing the memories of Tuesday’s defeat at Ewood Park, which gifted hosts Blackburn Rovers a major boost in their own survival bid.

Swedish international Larsson is well aware that QPR head to Wearside intent on their first back-to-back victories of the season, but says ninth placed Sunderland are keen to ensure their top half quest remains on track.

Larsson told SportMail: “It’s not going to be easy when you’re playing teams down there.

“But we know what we’re fighting for ourselves. We want to be fighting for the best league position we can get and not let the season fall away.

“There’s still nine games to go and there’s a lot of points to play for. That can take us places in the league.

“We know what we’re capable of and know what we’ve done over the last few months which makes it so frustrating when we perform like we did on Tuesday night.

“Let’s hope we can turn up and get three points.”
